Day 17 of basement renos

Day 17 of basement renos (May 17):

Let me give you a sneak peek at the mess the whole renovation has caused. My main floor is an absolute disaster area with dust everywhere and large furnitures covered with plastic. I am looking forward to when everything is back in its place.

My dining area/foyer area. We don't have an attached garage so the contractors had to go back
and forth from the garage (where they were cutting dry wall/4 x 6's) to my front door.

We moved all our furniture out of the way and covered them with plastic sheets.

My living room.

We had to lock our dog in our living room area during the day so that he wouldn't interfere with the
contractors. He was stressed out the whole time we were renovating :-(

Our upstairs are all carpeted so I had to block out the stairs with plastic sheets.

Our kitchen is right by the basement door so we had to cover the entrance to the kitchen with plastic
sheets so that the dust wouldn't be as bad.

The hardwood is down!

The wall sconces are up.

We put another wall sconce opposite of the wall in the previous picture since there were no
pot lights above this area.

Here it is without flash.

Another look.

The pot lights are installed!

Looking towards the bathroom.

Looking towards the TV area/office. It's all coming together nicely.

The spare bedroom with the lights mounted.

The finished nook.

Here's another view of the basement.

The french doors leading into the office with the glass exposed now.

The office light fixture.

The cold room door now fully installed with the chrome hardware.

The finished cold room (minus the baseboards)

The bathroom now has the light fixture installed.

Tomorrow they will be installing the mirror. I gave them the dimensions of he mirror size and how
high I wanted it mounted in relation to the light fixture/sink.

Another look.

The towel rack is installed.

The shower faucet is installed.

I love my toilet. I love how it flushes at the top.

They will be doing the stairway last.

Day 16 of basement renos

Day 16 of basement renos (May 16):

The most significant change from yesterday to today was the washroom. It's crazy how things can come out of nothing. It was really hard for me to envision the washroom space. In the drawings it looked too small, but now that I see everything installed it totally works.

My silver hardware is installed in all the doors.

All the doors are now installed.

Look at my washroom. The vanity is in there now.

And my lovely shower. Love the glass doors and the built-in.

The sink is pretty nice too. Not the standard sink that you see in most bathrooms.

I know it's gross showing you my toilet, but I even love my toilet! The flusher is on the top of the lid,
not on the side like most toilets.

And my shower tiles have been grouted.

Loving my oversized shower head.

I wish this was my bathroom upstairs. I hate my ensuite bathroom in my master. Can't wait to
renovate that in the future.

They drilled a toilet holder on the side of the vanity. The long horizontal rod pops up on one side
to allow the toilet paper to be changed.

A look into our furnace room. This is the only space that we won't be finishing. There is no point really.

Day 15 of basement renos

Day 15 of basement renos (May 15):

The painting is all done!
We are nearing the home stretch and it's really all starting to come together. The contractor told us they would be finishing early. Does that even ever happen???

Our storage room door is now painted a fresh white coat of paint. Still to come- door knobs. I chose
brushed silver for all the hardware.

Our little built-in. I can't wait to do a little vignette in this area.

Our guest bedroom closet doors waiting to get installed.

The only nightmare we came across was the flooring. We originally wanted these grayish-coloured floors,
but our contractor told us that they were no longer available. We had to pay a little extra to get something
that was to our liking, so here I was debating between the gray and the white flooring option.
We eventually settled with the grayish colour on the left.

The washroom tiles are all in. I absolutely love them!

And the shower tiles are all installed.

Here's a view of the basement from the washroom. It's hard to see in this lighting, but I love
the gray walls.

Another view of the basement from the other side.

Here is the office with the french doors. It's a warmer gray colour than the main basement area.

The cold room all painted.

That's the wall where we will have our TV mounted.

The finished window in our basement.
