Basics for my wardrobe

My closet was in dire need of basics. I tend to always purchase statement pieces- you know, clothing items with an interesting detail and ignore the boring basics. However, when I was decluttering my closet last week I realized I desperately needed basics. I noted in my head what pieces I needed and went out on a mission to fill that void. And here's what I got:

I bought 3 tank tops at Gap. They are sooooo soft. What I love about them are the length
and the skinny straps. The tank is also not too thick and very stretchy.

I bought a medium in all three. The small size fit, but I wanted something a little more
loose. And I'm always scared that clothes might shrink in the wash.
Plus, I hate tight-fitting clothes now. I'm still a little self-conscious about my belly
after having my 2nd so the looser the better ;-)

Originally this tank was almost $20CAD, but I got it on sale for $9.99CAD.
Now for the styling part. I paired the tank with my Bobeau sweater, Paige Denims,
Dolce Vita boots and my J Crew-inspired bubble necklace that I got on eBay.

I took off the sweater to show you what it looks like on its own.
So the next 2 tanks are the exact same as the previous light gray one, but I think these
are the new colours for spring. These were on promotion for 2 for $25. It also came in
a navy blue (which I was also eyeing, but didn't get), a pastel pink and a few other colours.
I ended up just getting the neutral colours as I think they will go with a lot of things in my closet.
I paired this tank with my Milly jacket/blazer, Forever 21 skinny jeans and my Gap booties.
This is the last tank. It's in a charcoal gray. I would have liked to get a black, but they
didn't have it at the store I went to.

Here's a close-up of the label. I highly suggest checking these tanks out at Gap.
As you can see it is $18.50CAD each, but there was a special promotion going on.
I never get anything regular price at Gap as they are always having promotions or sales.
I paired this tank with my Isabel Marant blazer/jacket, IT Jeans cut-off shorts, Gap booties
and my Amrita Singh necklace.

Here's how the tank looks without the jacket.
This knit sweater from Zara was so hard to photograph. It's my favourite purchase though.
It reminds me a lot like the Helmut Lang sweaters.

Here's a closer look. The material is stretchy and thin. I can see myself wearing this with
a lot of pieces in my closet.
I got this for $39.90CAD. They also had a white version, but the white was very white.
I would have liked it if it was more of cream colour. So I ended up just getting the
black. The only downside is this material looks prone to snagging so I would be extra
careful when wearing this.
Here I am wearing it with my Marc by Marc Jacobs jean capri shorts, Nine West pumps
and my Gorjana star necklace.
I also paired it with my Club Monaco skirt, Roger Viver flats, a Burberry-inspired cross-body
bag and my Psalm 91:1 necklace.

Next, I picked up a basic V-neck tee from Zara.
I got it in a medium. It's a little big on me, but they didn't have a small in the store.
I might try to shrink it in the wash.

It was $11.90CAD.
I love how soft this tee is. It is also a little distressed so it looks really flattering on.
I wore this with my Club Monaco boyfriend blazer, Marc by Marc Jacobs capri shorts,
Nine West pumps and my HRH Collection necklace.

Here's what it looks without the blazer. I would have worn a belt, but I don't have anything
in my closet that will go with this look. Maybe that's next on my shopping list…
I am pleased with everything I bought. I also filmed a video of me wearing all the pieces. I posted it on YouTube, but I'm unsure whether to make it live…

Colourful rings

I have a problem. I'm obsessed with Amrita Singh jewelry.
Now that I'm 3.5 months pregnant I find buying jewelry much more satisfying than buying clothing. I'm now showing a little bump so I don't get as much pleasure shopping for clothes- it just doesn't fit anymore!
Hautelook was having another Amrita Singh sale and I couldn't resist buying a few more pieces for my collection. I was immediately drawn to the Laure rings because they came in the most beautiful colours. These rings also reminded me of the YSL Arty Rings in that they had the colourful natural stones. I was also inspired by getting rings with colourful stones because I was admiring Lisa Eldridge's rings that she always wears on her videos. They look so good on her! Hers is by William Welstead and probably out of my price range, but I thought these would be a perfect alternative. Plus, these were on sale for $14/each at Hautelook. Regular price on these babies are $100/each! The sale is still on until tomorrow (Monday) so definitely check it out!

Amrita Singh from Enviius & a vintage necklace

I apologize for the lack of updates. I've been extremely sick the past 2 weeks and I've been super busy at work. I'm still not feeling myself, but I thought I would share with you my Amrita Singh haul that I got 2 weeks ago from Enviius. I usually order my Amrita Singh jewelry from Hautelook, but I recently came across a Canadian online store that worked in the same way as Hautelook. I decided to give it a try. I figured I would get the order quicker. Well, let me say that I'm never ordering from Enviius again! As soon as I put my order in I didn't even get an update for a week to say that they shipped out my order. Instead, I had to email the customer service to find out what the status on my order was. One thing I like about Hautelook is that their website gives you a step-by-step look on where your order is at. You can see when Hautelook receives the items from the vendor to when it processes/ships out to when it's delivered to your door. Enviius didn't do that. Plus, it took the customer service person almost a week to get back to me. Then, they kept saying that their warehouse didn't get the Amrita Singh order and I had to wait another week or so. When it finally did arrive I got an email from them that my order was shipped. So I assumed all the pieces I ordered had shipped. Unfortunately I only got 2 things out of the 3 pieces that I ordered. The missing item (my favourite one too at that) said it was 'short shipped'. I had to email customer service again and it took them another few days to get back to me. Basically they said that the item I ordered was no longer available (what the hell!) and that I would get a refund on my credit card. It took another week for that credit to go back to my account. I'm so disappointed with this whole experience that I don't think I'll ever order from Enviius again.
However, I thought I would share with you the pieces that I did get.

This is the Erivor necklace. I do love this necklace. It's very heavy and makes a lot of noise when
I wear it, but it's such a statement necklace.

I wore it once this week. I was in such a rush to get out the door that I'm not in love with my whole
outfit choice.

I do love the layered look to this necklace.

Overall, I'm happy with this one.

The Clara earrings were a total miss for me. They are HUGE.

Look at it against my hand. It looks ridiculous on my ear.

Plus the back are clip ons, not post back. I'm still debating how to pull this off. I might give this one
away. I'm so sad that I didn't get the other pair of earrings. I was looking forward to that one. ;-(

On a happier note, I bought a vintage necklace on eBay today. I only got it for $25 (that includes shipping!). It's much cheaper than some of the jewelry pieces that you see in stores and the one I got looks like it's really good
quality. The necklace is 20" in length.

Look how many layers of chain it comes with.

The more the merrier

Erivor Necklace
Here's another Amrita Singh haul. Actually I just ordered it today on Enviius which is much like Hautelook- a members only, online shopping site that has heavily discounted brands daily. Enviius is the Canadian counterpart of Hautelook. I had ordered Amrita Singh jewelry from Hautelook in the past, but I find Enviius is MUCH cheaper. I think it was up to 90% off! Plus, since it's Canadian I find the shipping rate a bit cheaper. So if you are interested in getting some Amrita Singh jewelry, now is the time! Hautelook also has Amrita Singh on sale right now.
Now onto the goods.
I got 3 things today. The first item (shown at the very top) is a GORGEOUS necklace called the Erivor Necklace. It says on Enviius that the regular price was $300CAD, but I got it for $32CAD. How sweet is that??? It's made of resin beads and the chain is 18k gold-plated brass. I think the necklace will look fantastic with a plain tee. It'll really dress it up. It also came in red, but I like how the black looks. Plus, you can mix & match it better.
Clara Earring in Brown Pearl, $11CAD. Down from $90CAD. I should have
actually looked at this more closely. It's actually huge. I thought it was a
delicate earring, but it's 1.25" x 1.25". I saw it on a model on Amrita Singh's
website and I'm reallynot sure about this purchase. However, it's only $11.

Rosaline Earring in Amethyst, $16CAD. Down from $120CAD. This one is so gorgeous!
I wanted the Blue Lapis colour too. This will look so good with my hair pulled back.

Jewelry mini haul

My camera is finally fixed! Yay!
When I dropped it off to get it fixed they told me it would take a maximum of 2 weeks and it's been over a month now. I can't believe how much I relied and loved my camera until I didn't have it anymore. I've wanted to share with you guys so many new things that I've gotten in the past month, but I wasn't able to. The first thing I wanted to share with you is my obsession with costume jewelry. Other than my own jewelry line I've been amassing quite a jewelry collection. Most specifically I've been obsessed with necklaces. I love how they can dress up a plain top. I do love my simple necklaces, but for some reason I'm really drawn to statement necklaces lately. I know some of you guys already know that I got 2 pieces from Amrita Singh on Hautelook, but I just wanted to show you the necklaces close-up.

My first necklace from Amrita Singh was the Pachac Necklace in Coral. At first I wasn't sure if I loved it
because the necklace was so light. It felt a little cheap. Plus, the resin wasn't as nice in person
as in the photos. However, after wearing it several times I love it. I've gotten several compliments on it-
not just from friends and co-workers, but total strangers. It's such a statement piece.

The second Amria Singh piece was the Cary Necklace. This necklace is much heavier than the
Pachac Necklace and it's got so much detail. I love wearing this just over my neck with a
plain, loose-fitting top.

This is the Tiffany & Co. Toggle Bracelet in Onyx that I got from my husband for my 31st birthday.
I know I already did a blog post on it, but I thought I would include it in this jewelry haul because
I absolutely adore this bracelet. It's so unique with the onyx beads.

My last piece is the Psalm 91:1 necklace that I bought from the craft fair I participated a few weeks ago.
Psalm 91:11 was another vendor there and I bought this necklace with my friend. It's a beautiful
necklace, but my only qualm is that the chain near the top already started oxidizing and I didn't
wear it that much...

Amrita Singh jewelry

Ever since I started making jewelry I've been amassing a significant amount of pieces to my jewelry collection. I love accessorizing plain outfits with amazing jewelry. I have found great cheap finds at Forever 21 (one of my favourite places to get jewelry), but I've been wanting to get higher-end jewelry as well. I'm not so much into diamonds and brands such as Tiffany's that everyone goes crazy for, but I'm talking about high-end costume jewelry. I've recently been interested in Amrita Singh jewelry. I love most of her designs and they come in such striking colours. Hautelook is currently having an Amrita Singh sale (ends on Monday! If you don't have an Hautelook membership yet, here's an invite link). Her jewelry is up to 85% off! I made a couple of purchases on Thursday and I thought I would share with you what I bought:

Cary Necklace. Originally $100, but I got it for $24.

Pachac Necklace in Coral. Original price was $150, but I got it for $29.
I was initially wanting to get the turquoise coloured one, but I think
turquoise is a lot harder to match. Plus, I think this coral colour will look so
good for fall/winter. I don't have anything like it.

This is the same Pachac Necklace, but in Evergreen. I just wanted to show
you how the necklace looks on.
