ow that I have 3 weeks left until I got back to work I feel like I need to finish projects that I've been meaning to do. I have a feeling once I start work I won't have time to do anything. My work consumed me prior to going on mat leave. I used to work until late at night and even bring work home with me. I'm not sure how I'm going to balance everything once I go back. I can't imagine working like that again. There's no way I can. My son is way more important than my work. Luckily, my boss (who has no kids, btw) is allowing me to work home on Fridays so I don't have to commute all the way downtown. Unfortunately that is only on times when it's not busy at work. Still, I'm really happy that she suggested that to me. So in case it's crazy when I go back, I decided today to finish off a little craft project that I've been meaning to do for some time. Ever since we bought our dining table when we moved in I've been wanting to get a table runner for it. Our dining table seats 6 people, but we can expand it to seat 8 people (there's a little piece in the middle that allows us to expand it). We wanted to buy an 8 seater dining table because our dining room is HUGE. I wanted to ensure that the dining table didn't feel swallowed up in the space. The previous owner had a 6 seater dining table so she filled the empty space on one of the end room with a couch. I just thought a couch had no purpose of being in a dining room so I didn't want to do what she did. I already had some white tablecloths for the dining table, but I wanted a long table runner to make the stark white sheets more inviting. I wasn't able to find any runners that I liked and most of them were too short for my table. So I decided to make one instead. I had a few pieces of fabric lying around so I picked one (I think it was the Amy Butler print) and measured out the width and length that I wanted. I backed the back with interfacing (because the fabric was too thin) and sewed it together. I had to sew 3 parts of the same fabric together to make the length that I wanted. All in all I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I chose that fabric because the yellow picks up the yellow in the Rothko print, the yellow from the yellow billy buttons, and the yellow from baby A's shirt in the frame that is on top of the credenza. Now, all I need to do is organize a dinner party!
